Important Proxy Bidding Changes Effective Jan. 1, 2008
JANUARY 01, 2008 - Site
Based upon feedback received from Buyers, we have made modifications to the way that "Proxy Bidding" works on ScrapSite, effective January 1, 2008.
Previously, if you had selected the "Proxy / Maximum" bid option, the system would place your bid such that it would try to hit the Seller's pre-set reserve price, to ensure that the material had to be awarded. However, numerous Buyers commented that, since the Seller has the option of lowering the reserve price at the close of the auction, they would rather have the system place their proxy bid at a level just enough to keep them in contention for winning material (in relation to other bids placed), and not automatically strive to hit the Seller's reserve price.
Thus, the new rules for Proxy bidding on ScrapSite are provided below. Proxy bidding is only available in Open-Bid auctions.
When you place a "Proxy / Maximum" bid:
1) If no other bids have yet been placed, the system will place your initial bid at the starting bid price, or
2) If bids have already been placed by other bidders, the system will either:
· Place your bid price matching the previous high price, if possible, based on your quantity bid and quantity still obtainable, or · Place your bid one increment higher than the previous high price, in order to assure that your bid is in contention for winning material. With a Proxy bid, the system will automatically bid for you incrementally, as needed, to keep you in contention for winning material, until either new prices bid by others exceed your maximum bid amount or the auction closes. You can now enter your proxy/maximum bid and let the system bid for you -- this saves you time, as you do not need to continuously monitor the entire auction! You can continue to update (raise) your Proxy bid as long as the auction is in progress. Remember, in an Open-Bid auction, the Seller does not have to award the material unless their reserve price has been met.
Note: A "Proxy / Maximum" bid retains its original Bid Time/Date stamp, even when the system bids for you. If you manually increase your proxy bid price or quantity, your Bid Time/Date will be the new time the updated bid was submitted and recorded. Warning: If a proxy bid for the full quantity offered is the first place bid near the close of an Open-Bid auction (i.e., final three minutes), the auction may not extend unless another bid exceeds the maximum bid amount set for that proxy bid.
Here is a link to a document that provides additional details on Proxy Bidding, Bid Ranking, and ScrapSite's "Quick Bid / Auction Status" page, which allows you to monitor all auctions for a particular day on a single web page.
